The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills
and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. The Basic Pistol Course will also

help prepare the student for participation in other NRA courses.
In this course, you will learn:
– Gun Safety
– Firearm characteristics
– Proper usage
– Pistol selection
– Ammunition types and differences
– The basic fundamentals
– Proper form
– Skill maintenance
– Common errors and how to correct
– Stoppages and corrective actions
– and how to clean pistols
This class is a perfect starting point to your never-ending training. It is a wonderful fit for folks of all ages; we especially love having the opportunity to educate the young ones, as youth firearm education is very near and dear to our hearts.
This course is approximately 8-10 hours and involves a half day at the range. Banner Shooting Range in Indianola, Olofson Shooting Range in Polk City, and The Racoon Valley Gun Club in Adel are the normally used ranges; this is however, subject to change. IA state range fees are $10/hour.
$134 per student – Payment accepted: cash, check, apple pay
$15 (ammo included) .22LR revolvers available for rent upon request. You are not required to pass the shooting test with any specific firearm or caliber(<.22LR.)
The class certificate received after successful completion of this course does satisfy Iowa’s educational requirement for an initial CCW or renewal application.
Course Prerequisites:
– You must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Person – a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) to participate in this course.
– Be qualified to possess a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state or local law
